ABOUT MARSHAWN

Marshawn Devon Feltus, a Chicago west-side native, is an experienced nontraditional practitioner. While incarcerated and in the thick of a necessity, his personal studies helped him develop a personal mantra and philosophy. In 2013, Marshawn completed entrepreneur training and business development. He went on to become a certified yoga instructor and opened the first yoga studio in Chicago’s Austin community (A.C.T. Yoga).

Marshawn has gained recognition through various media,

community members, and organizations for his work in the Chicago community and Cook County Jail. Marshawn is an active member with national and local organizations. Certified crisis prevention intervention and conflict resolution, Red Cross CPR certified, youth mentor, trained

in mindfulness meditation, and a certified public health peer educator. As the founder and owner of A.C.T. Yoga, Marshawn is on a mission to fulfill his life’s assignment Awareness, Change, and Triumph.

Growing up in Chicago, with some of the highest murder rates in the nation, criminal violence was an inescapable part of childhood for Marshawn Feltus. Though street gangs offered the promise of survival, they nearly stole his entire life away.

Marshawn Feltus took his first yoga class while incarcerated at Illinois River Correctional Center (IRCC) in Canton, Illinois. He’d spent almost 19 years of his life there, entering just shy of his eighteenth birthday, for what he calls “senseless street violence” that ended up in murder.
